A lot of people are fans of John 3:16, but they're not such fans of the verse that comes 20 verses later: "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him" (John 3:36). It's not merely enough that you know that Jesus Christ died for your sins. You must follow him. Remember, John 3:16 also says "whoever believes in him" will have eternal life.
