Polygamy Quotes By Abraham Lincoln

If the people of Utah shall peacefully form a State Constitution tolerating polygamy, will the Democracy admit them into the Union? — Abraham Lincoln

Polygamy Quotes By Ayaan Hirsi Ali

There is another viewpoint that must be stated without equivocation: if Muslims want to immigrate to open and developed societies in order to better themselves, then it is they who must expect to do the adapting. We no longer allow Jews to run separate Orthodox courts in their communities, or permit Mormons to practice polygamy or racial discrimination or child marriage. That is the price of "inclusion," and a very reasonable one. — Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Polygamy Quotes By Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Morals are nothing but a civilized society's attempt to tame some beast called man. — Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Polygamy Quotes By Laura Riding

Polygamy and polyandry distribute the frightening physical solidarity of monogamy. Monogamous couples are always hungry for company: to dilute sex. — Laura Riding

Polygamy Quotes By Gordon B. Hinckley

Polygamists have no connection with us whatsoever. They don't belong to the church. There are actually no Mormon fundamentalists. — Gordon B. Hinckley

Polygamy Quotes By John Densmore

Being in a band is like polygamy without the sex. — John Densmore

Polygamy Quotes By Bertrand Russell

The Mormons had a divine revelation in favour of polygamy, but under pressure from the United States Government they discovered that the revelation was not binding. — Bertrand Russell

Polygamy Quotes By Atossa Araxia Abrahamian

...many countries now allow dual citizenship-a status that Teddy Roosevelt once likened to polygamy. — Atossa Araxia Abrahamian

Polygamy Quotes By Scott Anderson

The principle of plural marriage was revealed to the Mormons amid much secrecy. Dark clouds hovered over the church in the early 1840s, after rumors spread that its founder, Joseph Smith, had taken up the practice of polygamy. While denying the charge in public, by 1843 Smith had shared a revelation with his closest disciples. — Scott Anderson

Polygamy Quotes By Darrel Ray

Throughout adolescence, Muslim men receive strong messages about male dominance in Marriage. The Koran is highly male-focused, with women being of little importance. Mohammed married as many women as he wanted, even a nine-year-old girl. Polygamy was acceptable and women were given in marriage with little consideration. Rules and punishments for women are far harsher than for men. [ ... ] Women are told that their purpose is to please the man and have children. Men are taught that sex with an in infidel woman, especially in another country, is not a sin against Allah. For a Muslim woman, sex with any man except her husband is a crime. — Darrel Ray

Polygamy Quotes By Tom Robbins

When we're incomplete, we're always searching for somebody to complete us. When, after a few years or a few months of a relationship, we find that we're still unfulfilled, we blame our partners and take up with somebody more promising. This can go on and on
series polygamy
until we admit that while a partner can add sweet dimensions to our lives, we, each of us, are responsible for our own fulfillment. Nobody else can provide it for us, and to believe otherwise is to delude ourselves dangerously and to program for eventual failure every relationship we enter. — Tom Robbins

Polygamy Quotes By John Dryden

In pious times, ere priest-craft did begin, Before polygamy was made a sin; When man, on many, multipli'd his kind, Ere one to one was cursedly confin'd: When Nature prompted, and no Law deni'd Promiscuous use of concubine and bride; Then, Israel's monarch, after Heaven's own heart, His vigorous warmth did variously impart To wives and slaves: and, wide as his command, Scatter'd his Maker's image through the land. — John Dryden

Polygamy Quotes By Judy Biggert

No Congress ever has seen fit to amend the Constitution to address any issue related to marriage. No Constitutional Amendment was needed to ban polygamy or bigamy, nor was a Constitutional Amendment needed to set a uniform age of majority to ban child marriages. — Judy Biggert

Polygamy Quotes By Rick Santorum

Whether it's polygamy, whether it's adultery, whether it's sodomy, all of those things, are antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family. — Rick Santorum

Polygamy Quotes By Mokokoma Mokhonoana

If love wasn't conditional, everybody would be in love with everybody. — Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Polygamy Quotes By Anonymous

In strict Muslim countries such as Afghanistan, many young men have little hope of ever finding a partner. Typically in such nations, there are at least 3 percent more males than females, partly because females don't receive the same medical care as males. Also, polygamy means that the wealthiest men take two or three wives, leaving even fewer women available for the poor. The inability of a young man to settle down in a family may increase the likelihood of his drifting toward violence. — Anonymous

Polygamy Quotes By Brigham Young

'Do you think that we shall ever be admitted as a State into the Union without denying the principle of polygamy?' If we are not admitted until then, we shall never be admitted. — Brigham Young

Polygamy Quotes By Brigham Young

Yes, polygamy is one of the relics of Adam, of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham, of Isaac, of Jacob, of Moses, David, Solomon, the Prophets, of Jesus, and his apostles. — Brigham Young

Polygamy Quotes By Charles Krauthammer

In an essay 10 years ago, I pointed out that it is utterly logical for polygamy rights to follow gay rights. After all, if traditional marriage is defined as the union of (1) two people of (2) opposite gender, and if, as advocates of gay marriage insist, the gender requirement is nothing but prejudice, exclusion and an arbitrary denial of one's autonomous choices in love, then the first requirement - the number restriction (two and only two) - is a similarly arbitrary, discriminatory and indefensible denial of individual choice. — Charles Krauthammer

Polygamy Quotes By Dan Barker

There is no "universal moral urge" and not all ethical systems agree. Polygamy, human sacrifice, infanticide, cannibalism (Eucharist), wife beating, self-mutilation, foot binding, preemptive war, torture of prisoners, circumcision, female genital mutilation, racism, sexism, punitive amputation, castration and incest are perfectly "moral" in certain cultures. Is god confused? — Dan Barker

Polygamy Quotes By Todd M. Compton

It is one of the great ironies of Mormon history that Smith, who set the polygamous movement in motion, never experienced it in practical terms. He was content to marry the teenage women who lived in his home and then let them depart when Emma objected. And he was content to let his polyandrous wives live with their first husbands, so he never bore the responsibility of providing for them, financially or emotionally, on a day-to-day basis. He never witnessed the toll practical polygamy would take on an Eliza Partridge... — Todd M. Compton

Polygamy Quotes By Brigham Young

Emma took the revelation, on polygamy supposed she had all there was; but Joseph had wisdom enough to take care of it, and he had handed the revelation to Bishop Whitney, and he wrote it all off ... She went to the fireplace and put it in, and put a candle under it and burnt it, and she thought that was the end of it, and she will be damned as sure as she is a living woman. Joseph used to say that he would have her hereafter, if he had to go to hell for her, and he will have to go to hell for her as sure as he ever gets her. — Brigham Young

Polygamy Quotes By Bertrand Russell

After Justinian became Emperor: "He was a man of deep piety, which he signalized, two years after his accession, by closing the schools of philosophy in Athens, where paganism still reigned. The dispossessed philosophers betook themselves to Persia, where the king received them kindly. But they were shocked
more so, says Gibbon, than became philosophers
by the Persian practices of polygamy and incest, so they returned home again, and faded into obscurity." How tumultuous thou art, sixth century! — Bertrand Russell

Polygamy Quotes By George Q. Cannon

If I had not obeyed that command of God, concerning plural marriage, I believe that I would have been damned. — George Q. Cannon

Polygamy Quotes By Emily Yoffe

I understand polyamory is different from polygamy, and doesn't share the latter's rigid and noxious views that men run the show and are the only ones allowed multiple partners. — Emily Yoffe

Polygamy Quotes By Max Lucado

Biblically defined marriage is a man and a woman for life, and so anything different than that is not God's ideal whether it be polygamy, whether it be divorce, whether it be a marriage between a man and a man or a woman and a woman. The ideal would be a man and a woman under a covenant of God's blessing. — Max Lucado

Polygamy Quotes By Marquis De Sade

Women are not made for one single man; 'tis for men at large Nature created them. — Marquis De Sade

Polygamy Quotes By Wilford Woodruff

This manifesto only refers to future marriages, and does not affect past conditions. — Wilford Woodruff

Polygamy Quotes By Roman Payne

May a man live well-enough and long-enough, to leave many joyful widows behind him. — Roman Payne

Polygamy Quotes By Max Kellerman

In America, as was the topic earlier about polygamy, consenting adults are supposed to do - be able to do whatever they want to each other, whether it's marrying multiple partners, marrying someone of the same sex, prostitution, marijuana. As long as you're not hurting anyone else, it's really none of the government's business. — Max Kellerman

Polygamy Quotes By Lawrence Wright

While they were still in the university, Osama and Jamal made a resolution. They decided to practice polygamy. It had become socially unacceptable in Saudi Arabia. "Our fathers' generation was using polygamy in not a very good way. They would not give equal justice to their wives," Khalifa admitted. "Sometimes they would marry and divorce in the same day. The Egyptian media used to put this on television, and it made a very bad impression. So, we said, 'Let's practice this and show people we can do it properly. — Lawrence Wright

Polygamy Quotes By Dennis Prager

Society may no longer define marriage in the only way marriage has ever been defined in the annals of recorded history. Many societies allowed polygamy, many allowed child marriages, some allowed marriage within families; but none, in thousands of years, defined marriage as the union of people of the same sex. — Dennis Prager

Polygamy Quotes By Kanye West

Love is cursed by monogamy — Kanye West

Polygamy Quotes By Brigham Young

The introduction of the doctrine of polygamy was the first time in my life that I desired the grave, and I could hardly get over it for a long time. And when I saw a funeral, I felt to envy the corpse its situation. — Brigham Young

Polygamy Quotes By Bruce R. McConkie

Obviously the holy practice (of polygamy) will commence again after the Second Coming of the Son of Man and the ushering in of the millennium. — Bruce R. McConkie

Polygamy Quotes By Todd M. Compton

It is useless to judge nineteenth-century Mormons by late twentieth-century standards. Both men and women were given an impossible task and failed at it. All we can do today is sympathize with them in their tragedies and marvel at their heroism as they suffered. — Todd M. Compton

Polygamy Quotes By Ayaan Hirsi Ali

As a legal text, the Qur'an reflects its origins in a tribal or clan-based society, particularly on issues concerning inheritance, male guardianship, the validity of a woman's testimony in court, and polygamy. This is even more obvious in the hadith, the compilation of sayings attributed to the Prophet or documenting his actions. This combination of the Qur'an and the example of Muhammad forms the basis of sharia. The derivation of these legal rules, known as fiqh, is the responsibility of Islamic jurists and takes place on the basis of ijma (consensus). When conflicts of interpretation arise, scholars consult the Qur'an and hadith. — Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Polygamy Quotes By George Q. Cannon

I feel like saying 'Damn the Law.' — George Q. Cannon

Polygamy Quotes By Nawal El Saadawi

The family code in Egypt is one of the worst family codes in the Arab world. Polygamy. The husband is having absolute power over the family. — Nawal El Saadawi

Polygamy Quotes By Heber C. Kimball

It would be as easy for the United States to build a tower to remove the sun, as to remove polygamy, or the Church and Kingdom of God. — Heber C. Kimball

Polygamy Quotes By Brady Udall

The life of a plural wife, she'd found, was a life lived under constant comparison, a life spent wondering. Sitting across from her sister-wives at Sunday dinner, the platters and serving dishes floating past like hovercraft, the questions were almost inescapable; Who of us is the most happy? Which of us is his one true love? Who does he desire the most? — Brady Udall

Polygamy Quotes By Ellen G. White

Polygamy had been early introduced, contrary to the divine arrangement at the beginning. The Lord gave to Adam one wife, [92] showing his order in that respect. But after the Fall, men chose to follow their own sinful desires; and as the result, crime and wretchedness rapidly increased. Neither the marriage relation nor the rights of property were respected. Whoever coveted the wives or the possessions of his neighbor, took them by force, and men exulted in their deeds of violence. They delighted in destroying the life of animals; and the use of flesh for food rendered them still more cruel and bloodthirsty, until they came to regard human life with astonishing indifference. — Ellen G. White

Polygamy Quotes By G.K. Chesterton

Variability is one of the virtues of a woman. It avoids the crude requirement of polygamy. So long as you have one good wife you are sure to have a spiritual harem. — G.K. Chesterton

Polygamy Quotes By Cathleen Rountree

When it's time to settle into the serial monogamy inherent in writing a book (although, between you and me, I secretly practice biblio-polygamy - I can't help myself), — Cathleen Rountree

Polygamy Quotes By Colleen Chen

Then you shouldn't be worried about him being with me. You can have him back when I'm done with him. — Colleen Chen

Polygamy Quotes By Carol Lynn Pearson

I would not have been able to articulate it at that time, but I had begun a painful journey toward an impossible goal, a journey that lasted a long time: how to love a God who hurts you. — Carol Lynn Pearson

Polygamy Quotes By Joseph Fielding Smith

My wives will be mine in eternity. — Joseph Fielding Smith

Polygamy Quotes By Carla Bruni

I'm monogamous from time to time, but I prefer polygamy and polyandry. — Carla Bruni

Polygamy Quotes By Ardyth Kennelly

Of all the names Polygamy went by (so as not to exasperate the Gentile population and even some of the wives of the members' own bosoms any more than necessary)
such as Pluralism, Plural or Celestial Wedlock, the Principle, the Doctrine, the New Covenant and the Gospel Dispensation of the Meridian of Consummate Time
the latter was thought to be the least like waving a red flag in front of a bull. But as it was hard to remember and did not make instant or any other kind of sense, it was not much used. — Ardyth Kennelly

Polygamy Quotes By Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Marriage converts a player into a polygamist. — Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Polygamy Quotes By Emily Yoffe

Polygamy has an ancient history and is legal in many parts of the world. I find the rules of polygamy to be damaging and it's potentially dangerous to young girls and terrible for "excess" boys. But polyamory is supposed to be a more equal arrangement among agreeing adults. — Emily Yoffe

Polygamy Quotes By Bill Maher

Old Testament, is really one of the most wickedest books you'll ever come across. God is an insecure, rage-filled hybrid of Bobby Knight and Suge Knight. He's got these anger issues that you can't believe. He's like John McCain if McCain could fart hail. He's pro-slavery, he's pro-polygamy, he's homophobic, he'll kill you for masturbating. — Bill Maher

Polygamy Quotes By Brigham Young

Why do we believe in and practice polygamy? Because the Lord introduced it to his servants in a revelation given to Joseph Smith, and the Lord's servants have always practiced it. 'And is that religion popular in heaven?' It is the only popular religion there ... — Brigham Young

Polygamy Quotes By Gene Robinson

The state's interest in marriage is stability. Generally speaking, polygamy does not work for stability. Inherent in the whole polygamous movement is a deep and abiding misogyny and denigration of women. So polygamy is objectionable on lots of grounds. — Gene Robinson

Polygamy Quotes By Ann Jones

At the same time, popular notions of marriage and the home were challenged on other fronts. Utopian communities experimented with radical new forms of marriage or, as in the Oneida Community, did away with it altogether. The Shakers took up celibacy, the Mormons polygamy; and Charles Knowlton issued an underground best-seller on birth control methods. William Alcott, Catherine Beecher, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and scores of other experts countered — Ann Jones

Polygamy Quotes By Todd M. Compton

To nineteenth-century leaders the principle was not just an optional revelation - they viewed it as the most important revelation in Joseph Smith's life, which is what he undoubtedly taught them. If they accepted him as an infallible prophet, and if they wanted full exaltation, they had no recourse but to marry many plural wives. Their devotion to Joseph the seer outweighed their experience of polygamy's impracticality and tragic consequences for women, which many men probably did not even recognize.

But it is worth noting that the women who suffered so much under polygamy gave it their unqualified support in public rallies and wrote impassioned defenses of it. They too were devoted to the idea that their church was led by practically infallible, authoritative prophets, especially Joseph Smith. — Todd M. Compton

Polygamy Quotes By Gordon B. Hinckley

I condemn polygamy, yes, as a practice, because I think it is not doctrinal. It is not legal. And this church takes the position that we will abide by the law. — Gordon B. Hinckley

Polygamy Quotes By Colleen Chen

To him, she was one of the few girls who was nice to him, the stodgy son of a poor alcoholic shoemaker with such little status that he seemed unlikely to even get one wife, let alone the three or more that designated a man of standing. — Colleen Chen

Polygamy Quotes By Tom Green

I'm no more a lawbreaker than they are , and if they were lawbreakers for keeping God's commandments, they're my example. — Tom Green

Polygamy Quotes By H.L. Mencken

The typical lawmaker of today is a man wholly devoid of principle - a mere counter in a grotesque and knavish game. If the right pressure could be applied to him, he would be cheerfully in favor of polygamy, astrology or cannibalism. — H.L. Mencken

Polygamy Quotes By Brigham Young

Talk about polygamy! There is no true philosopher on the face of the earth but what will admit that such a system, properly carried out according to the order of heaven, is far superior to monogamy for the raising of healthy, robust children! — Brigham Young

Polygamy Quotes By Friedrich Engels

the organization of a certain number of free and unfree persons into one family under the paternal authority of the head of the family. In the Semitic form this head of the family lives in polygamy, the unfree members have wife and children, and the purpose of the whole organization is the tending of herds in a limited territory. — Friedrich Engels

Polygamy Quotes By Malcolm Gladwell

It is useful to compare the Branch Davidians with the Mormons of the mid-nineteenth century. The Mormons were vilified in those years in large part because Joseph Smith believed in polygamy. — Malcolm Gladwell

Polygamy Quotes By Benyf

Polygamy simply says, "You are not enough. — Benyf

Polygamy Quotes By Orson Pratt

God has told us Latter-day Saints that we shall be condemned if we do not enter into that principle of polygamy; and yet I have heard now and then (I am very glad to say that only a low such instances have come under my notice) a brother or a sister say, 'I am a Latter-day Saint, but I do not believe in polygamy.' Oh, what an absurd expression! What an absurd idea! A person might as well say, 'I am a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, but I do not believe in him.' — Orson Pratt

Polygamy Quotes By Kiera Cass

You know, I once read a book about people who practiced polygamy. One man with several wives. Crazy. I was just in a room with eight very unhappy woman and I have no idea why anyone would choose that. — Kiera Cass

Polygamy Quotes By Elbert Hubbard

Polygamy: An endeavour to get more out of life than there is in it. — Elbert Hubbard

Polygamy Quotes By Esther Vilar

When will women become civilized enough to stop mistreating men? When will they cease from training their lovers to become providers, merely because they have the power to do so?
As long as they continue as they are, men have no alternative to polygamy. — Esther Vilar

Polygamy Quotes By Colleen Chen

Nim looked aghast. "Of course not. Do you think my future wife would be a servant? No - it's Number Seven of the wives. Her name is Begonia."
"Oh, no, Nim," Vesper said. "You can't fall for one of the wives! She's married. And to the king, no less. That's illegal. Maybe it shouldn't be, but you'll still probably be arrested if anyone finds out - or worse."
"I knew you'd say that," Nim said, turning away. "You're such a prude, Vesper. Love is above things like rules. And the king has so many wives and mistresses - he doesn't even remember all of them. — Colleen Chen

Polygamy Quotes By Steve Allen

The Bible is unfortunately unclear on a long list of moral and social questions and sex is one of them. On the one hand, there are expressions of admiration for the reportedly virgin mother of Jesus, but other portions of scripture speak quite accommodatingly of polygamy. — Steve Allen

Polygamy Quotes By Wilford Woodruff

If we are going to do away with polygamy, it would only be one feather in the bird, one ordinance in the Church and Kingdom. Do away with that, then we must do away with the prophets and apostles, with revelation and the gifts and graces of the Gospel, and finally give up our religion altogether. — Wilford Woodruff

Polygamy Quotes By Milan Kundera

Making love with a woman and sleeping with a woman are two separate passions, not merely different but opposite. Love does not make itself felt in the desire for copulation (a desire that extends to an infinite number of women) but in the desire for shared sleep (a desire limited to one woman). — Milan Kundera

Polygamy Quotes By Ariel Pink

I have a theory: I believe that with the advent of the United States and the lawful definition of marriage, it was defined as between one man and one woman. It was anti-polygamy, in effect saying no man can hoard his women. — Ariel Pink

Polygamy Quotes By Lynn K. Wilder

He asked a simple question and expected no answer. "Is polygamy an eternal principle? — Lynn K. Wilder

Polygamy Quotes By John Taylor

We believe in honesty, morality, and purity; but when they enact tyrannical laws, forbidding us the free exercise of our religion, we cannot submit. God is greater than the United States, and when the Government conflicts with heaven, we will be ranged under the banner of heaven and against the Government ... Polygamy is a divine institution. It has been banded down direct from God. The United States cannot abolish it. No nation on the earth can prevent it, nor all the nations of the earth combined ... I defy the United States; I will obey God. — John Taylor

Polygamy Quotes By Mark A. Noll

Smith, for example, claimed that if Americans defended slavery on the basis of the Old Testament, they should also defend practices like polygamy and the complete annihilation of defeated armies that are also prescribed in the Old Testament — Mark A. Noll

Polygamy Quotes By Aziz Ansari

Another poll, from Gallup, found that infidelity is more universally disapproved of than polygamy, animal cloning, and suicide.11 So if there were two guys at a bar, one cheating on his wife and another with a cloned pig named Bootsie, it would be the cheater, not Bootsie the pig, getting more disapproving looks. — Aziz Ansari

Polygamy Quotes By David Josiah Brewer

It is Mormonism, Mohammedanism and heathenism and not Christianity which have proclaimed polygamy and debased woman from the sacred place of wife to the lower level of concubine. It is not Christianity which has sustained the social evil. — David Josiah Brewer

Polygamy Quotes By Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Masturbation is the new polygamy. — Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Polygamy Quotes By Colleen Chen

Oh," she breathed. "How silly I've been."
"How silly we've all been," said another of the wives. "We shouldn't be fighting each other. Our problems don't lie in any of the relationships we have with each other."
"The problem is our entire social system," chimed in another. — Colleen Chen

Polygamy Quotes By Andrew Solomon

The campaign against polygamy, around which a lot of anti-Mormon sentiment was organized, seems horrific to me. — Andrew Solomon

Polygamy Quotes By Scott Anderson

So many times in the history of Mormon polygamy, the outside world thought it had the movement on the ropes only to see it flourish anew. — Scott Anderson

Polygamy Quotes By Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Most women think cheating is 'disgusting' ... until they fall for a man that likes them back; but isn't willing to leave his lover for them. — Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Polygamy Quotes By H.L. Mencken

The ideal state for a philosopher, indeed, is celibacy tempered by polygamy. — H.L. Mencken

Polygamy Quotes By G. Xavier Robillard

I'm not really sure why some people automatically jump to "polygamy" when they hear gay marriage. When I hear "gay marriage" I immediately think "cute shoes". — G. Xavier Robillard

Polygamy Quotes By Gordon B. Hinckley

It was a very limited practice; carefully safeguarded. In 1890, that practice was discontinued. — Gordon B. Hinckley

Polygamy Quotes By J. Budziszewski

Even in the West, moreover, although the ethical ideal has been absolute monogamy, the legal norm has been merely relative monogamy, which is also known as successive polygamy. — J. Budziszewski

Polygamy Quotes By John Taylor

We are accused here of polygamy, and actions the most indelicate, obscene, and disgusting, such that none but a corrupt and depraved heart could have contrived. These things are too outrageous to admit to belief ... — John Taylor

Polygamy Quotes By Jon Krakauer

I [Lorna Craig] would say that teaching a girl that her salvation depends on her having sexual relations with a married man is inherently destructive." Such relationships, Craig argues bitterly, should be considered "a crime, not a religion. — Jon Krakauer

Polygamy Quotes By E.W. Howe

Loving everybody is polygamy. I care for no friend who loves his enemy equally well. — E.W. Howe

Polygamy Quotes By Dennis McKinsey

Biblical backing for Mormon behavior is easy to find, although Mark Twain is reported to have denied its legitimacy to a Mormon. The Mormon claimed polygamy was perfectly moral and he defied Twain to cite any passage of Scripture which forbade it. 'Well,' said Twain, 'how about that passage that tells us no man can serve two masters at the same time?' — Dennis McKinsey

Polygamy Quotes By Anne Norton

Muslim women, and critics, male and female, of Western models of sex and sexuality, are silenced. The price of speech for a Muslim woman in the West is the disavowal of Islam. Books condemning Islam are picked by publishers and featured on talk shows. Their authors are commended for their courage. Speech in defense of Islam is read as the speech of subjection. Islam oppresses women. Any woman speaking in its favor must be deluded or forced to speak against her will. If she defends the hijab or speaks in defense of polygamy, she cannot be believed. No woman in her right mind could defend these. Any woman who does must be deluded or coerced. The more Muslim women object to Western efforts to "help" them, the more need there is to liberate them. — Anne Norton

Polygamy Quotes By Robert Green Ingersoll

If a man really believes that God once upheld slavery; that he commanded soldiers to kill women and babes; that he believed in polygamy; that he persecuted for opinion's sake; that he will punish forever, and that he hates an unbeliever, the effect in my judgment will be bad. It always has been bad. This belief built the dungeons of the Inquisition. This belief made the Puritan murder the Quaker. — Robert Green Ingersoll

Polygamy Quotes By Patrick Rothfuss

One wife, you're happy, two and you're tired, three and they'll hate each other, four and they'll hate you. — Patrick Rothfuss

Polygamy Quotes By Joseph Smith Jr.

This doctrine of polygamy, or spiritual wife-system, that has been taught and practiced among us, will prove our destruction and overthrow. — Joseph Smith Jr.

Polygamy Quotes By Wilford Woodruff

There is nothing in my teachings to the Church or in those of my associates, during the time specified, which can be reasonably construed to inculate or encourage polygamy ... And I now publicly declare that my advice to the Latter-day Saints is to refrain from contracting any marriage forbidden by the law of the land. — Wilford Woodruff

Polygamy Quotes By Jon Krakauer

Both Elizabeth [Smart] and Ruby [Jessop] were fourteen when they were kidnapped, raped and "kept captive by polygamous fanatics." The main difference in the girls' respective ordeals ... is that "Elizabeth was brainwashed for nine months," while Ruby had been brainwashed by polygamist fanatics "since birth." Despite the similarity of their plights, Elizabeth's abusers were jailed and charged with sexual assault, aggravated burglary, and aggravated kidnapping, while Ruby ... "was returned to her abusers, no real investigation was done, no charges brought against anyone" involved. — Jon Krakauer

Polygamy Quotes By B. H. Roberts

The Manifesto was a cowardly proceeding, the more I thought of it the less I liked it. — B. H. Roberts

Polygamy Quotes By Dacia Maraini

Something struck me in Africa, in black Africa, where polygamy is legal: the solitary woman is the rule there, from at an extremely young age, and the children are always the mother's responsibility. — Dacia Maraini

Polygamy Quotes By Brigham Young

The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy. Others attain unto a glory and may even be permitted to come into the presence of the Father and the Son; but they cannot reign as kings in glory, because they had blessing offered unto them, and they refused to accept them. — Brigham Young
