Pharmacological Quotes By Terence McKenna

The overriding problems are brought on by the existence of the ego, a maladaptive behavioral complex in the psyche that gets going like a tumor. If it's not treated - if there's not pharmacological intervention - it becomes the dominant constellation of the personality.. — Terence McKenna

Pharmacological Quotes By Kilroy J. Oldster

With endless pharmacological supplies at our fingertips, we do not need to penetrate the motives behind our actions, feelings, transgressions, dreams, and phobias. High on chemical substances we can remain stagnated in an infantile mental state. Without introspection, we foreclose ourselves from gaining the insight that allows us to navigate adulthood's ceaseless demands. — Kilroy J. Oldster

Pharmacological Quotes By Ben Goldacre

Dr Stewart Wolf took the placebo effect to the limit. He took two women who were suffering with nausea and vomiting, one of them pregnant, and told them he had a treatment which would improve their symptoms. In fact he passed a tube down into their stomachs (so that they wouldn't taste the revolting bitterness) and administered ipecac, a drug that which should actually induce nausea and vomiting. Not only did the patients' symptoms improve, but their gastric contractions - which ipecac should worsen - were reduced. His results suggest - albeit it in a very small sample - that a drug could be made to have the opposite effect to what you would predict from the pharmacology, simply by manipulating people's expectations. In this case, the placebo effect outgunned even the pharmacological influences. More — Ben Goldacre

Pharmacological Quotes By Richard Dawkins

The placebo effect is well documented and not even very mysterious. Dummy pills, with no pharmacological activity at all, demonstrably improve health. That is why double-blind drug trials must use placebos as controls. It's why homoeopathic remedies appear to work, even though they are so dilute that they have the same amount of active ingredient as the placebo control - zero molecules. — Richard Dawkins

Pharmacological Quotes By Steven Kotler

Mindset impacts emotion, which alters biology, which increases performance. Thus, it seemed, by tinkering with mindset - using everything from physical to psychological to pharmacological interventions - one could significantly enhance performance. — Steven Kotler

Pharmacological Quotes By William Gibson

Laney felt the pills he'd taken, the ones that were supposed to cushion the jet lag, drop out from under him like some kind of rotten pharmacological scaffolding. — William Gibson

Pharmacological Quotes By Stanton Peele

The addictive experience is the totality of effect produced by an involvement; it stems from pharmacological and physiological sources, but takes its ultimate form from cultural and individual constructions of experience. — Stanton Peele

Pharmacological Quotes By Aldous Huxley

There will be in the next generation or so a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them but will rather enjoy it. — Aldous Huxley

Pharmacological Quotes By Caroline Myss

I think that the practice of medicine, the science of it, has become 50% pharmacological, so that doctors are like walking pharmacies. — Caroline Myss

Pharmacological Quotes By Stanislav Grof

LSD was not a pharmacological agent generating exotic experiences by its interaction with the neurophysiological processes in the brain. This remarkable substance was clearly an unspecific catalyst of the deep dynamics of the human psyche. The experiences induced by it were not neurochemical artifacts, symptoms of a toxic psychosis as mainstream psychiatrists called it, but genuine manifestations of the human psyche itself. — Stanislav Grof

Pharmacological Quotes By Thomas Szasz

After generations of living under medical tutelage, which provides us with protection (albeit illusory) against "dangerous drugs", we have failed to cultivate the self-reliance and self-discipline we must possess as competent adults surrounded by the fruits of our pharmacological-technological age. — Thomas Szasz

Pharmacological Quotes By Gabor Mate

Settling for the view that illnesses, mental or physical, are primarily genetic allows us to avoid disturbing questions about the nature of the society in which we live. If "science" enables us to ignore poverty or man-made toxins or a frenetic and stressful social culture as contributors to disease, we can look only to simple answers: pharmacological and biological. — Gabor Mate

Pharmacological Quotes By Terence McKenna

We need a pharmacological intervention on anti-social behavior or we are not going to get hold of our dilemma. — Terence McKenna

Pharmacological Quotes By Ryoji Noyori

Chiral receptor sites in the human body interact only with drug molecules having the proper absolute configuration, resulting in marked differences in the pharmacological activities of enantiomers. — Ryoji Noyori

Pharmacological Quotes By James W. Black

I did help to set up an undergraduate course in medicinal chemistry and made progress in modelling and analysing pharmacological activity at the tissue level, my new passion. — James W. Black

Pharmacological Quotes By Ben Kingsley

Equal partners aren't always what we envision as being manifestly equal. Equality can come in many different shapes and sizes and combinations. — Ben Kingsley

Pharmacological Quotes By James W. Black

All I ever promised was that I was sure I could develop a new pharmacological agent which might answer a physiological question. Any utility would be implicit in that answer. — James W. Black

Pharmacological Quotes By Stuart Firestein

George Bernard Shaw, in a toast at a dinner feting Albert Einstein, proclaimed, "Science is always wrong. It never solves a problem without creating 10 more." Isn't that glorious? Science (and I think this applies to all kinds of research and scholarship) produces ignorance, possibly at a faster rate than it produces knowledge. Science, then, is not like the onion in the often used analogy of stripping away layer after layer to get at some core, central, fundamental truth. Rather it's like the magic well: no matter how — Stuart Firestein

Pharmacological Quotes By Richard Bentall

If we are to believe the evidence from clinical trials there are many effective pharmacological and psychological treatments for mental illness. Epidemiological data, on the other hand, says otherwise. — Richard Bentall

Pharmacological Quotes By Jean-Martin Charcot

How is it, one fine morning, Duchenne discovered a disease which probably existed in the time of Hippocrates. — Jean-Martin Charcot

Pharmacological Quotes By Jacques Delors

Within ten years 80% of our economic legislation, perhaps even fiscal and social as well' would come from the EU. — Jacques Delors

Pharmacological Quotes By Moshe Sharett

I am against preventive war because it means measures by the UN against us. — Moshe Sharett
